Family : Laridae
Terns are birds in the family Laridae and distributed in several genres: Gelochelidon, Hydroprogne, Thalasseus, Sterna Sternula and Onychoprion. Terns are also commonly called sea swallows.
There are many terns. The photos above relates to exclusively :
- Little Tern - Sternula albifrons : It is a small tern recognizable by its yellow bill with a black tip, white forehead and his yellow legs.
- Common Tern - Sterna hirundo : his quick and graceful flight reminiscent of the swallow. This feature has earned it the common name of "tern". It is a web-footed bird of the order Charadriiformes and family Laridae, whose plumage is white and gray, fully black cap over his eyes and black tip orange-red beak.
